Pano, as it’s affectionately known to most skiers and boarders, is a destination you need on your bucket list! It’s located just up the mountain from Invermere, BC and it’s about 6.5 hours from Edmonton. The base area is awesome for kids and families with lift’s appropriate for every level of rider. From terrified beginners to seasoned veterans, there’s a comfortable way down this mountain for EVERY rider.
Panorama Mountain Village is a completely self-contained ski in/ski out resort. Pano offers one of the easiest ski vacations around. Simply hop off the bus and head to your condo – you won’t need to go anywhere else other than the lifts! Virtually every deck from the condos has a great view of something!
The après ski time here is truly the strength of Panorama Mountain Resort. The giant horseshoe shaped outdoor hot pools in the middle of the village is where everyone goes to trade ski stories and watch the day end. There are other hot tubs all over the village if you’re looking for a quieter time. The T-bar pub gathers folks for pre-dinner beverages and the many restaurant options will make sure you’re full and content before the end of every evening.
Panorama has great access to mid mountain with this chair. For groups of mixed abilities this is the chair. New riders have several choices and more experienced riders have a full selection too. Pano’ is famous for big wide open cruisers. Make sure you take time to really enjoy the perfect rolling terrain from the Mile One chair.
From the top of Mile One you can access both Champagne and Sunbird chairs. Champagne takes you up to the top and you ride down to the base of Sunbird.
The top of Panorama is black and blue all over. That said some of the blues are well within the reach of new riders as long as they are guided down and take their time. The terrain up here opens up in every direction. Just like the view! But you’re not at the top yet, there’s the Summit chair left to go. From the Champagne chair there are several awesome runs to tear up. Make sure your map is handy as you have much to explore here! If you ride in here and don’t have fun, you didn’t do it right and you should start over!
This one is the hero cam chair for sure. The front side offers the super long runs to the base and gives you the leg burn we all aim to achieve. The back side, Taynton Bowl, now there’s another story. This area is spectacular, offering a back country feeling with inbounds patrolling and avvy control. If you’re in Pano’ and it’s snowing, head to Taynton. There’s lots of double black goodness here. Be aware that they aren’t kidding about double black though.
Some great terrain awaits on the gentle slopes of Sunbird. You can lay in several laps off this chair and be within a few minutes of the chalet. Let Sunbird be your winding down at the end of the day chair. You’ll be pleasantly fatigued by the end.
These two areas are part of Panorama’s appeal to the skiers and boarders that make the trek to BC. Both areas offer some spectacular terrain and the opportunity to challenge yourself. You’ll find some wide open areas, some bumps, some cruisers, some long traverses, some giant smiles and some high fives!
