So February it is! This is the season for the heavy snowfalls, champagne powder, the days that make Revy days. Bring your big skis or powder board, you’ll want them with you.
Our adventure begins Friday at as we depart from Edmonton. We’re leaving early as we have a long way to go and the Rogers Pass lies ahead. A quick dinner stop and another pee break later in the trip. You’ll be finding your bed pretty inviting by 10 when we arrive at the Sandman Revelstoke. They’re clean, comfy and rustic, perfect for apres’ ski rejuvenation!
Saturday – we’ll make our way to Revelstoke for the first full day of skiing! If you haven’t been here before be sure to grab a mountain map! You’ll need it! You will want to take loads of pictures, so you can show your friends back home what they’re missing. Spend your day exploring the massive area that is Revelstoke Mountain Resort.
Sunday is checkout day and the day to get back to the areas you discovered yesterday. Make today count, enjoy every turn and every magnificent view. These are the moments to savour.
Too soon we will be boarding the coach and heading back home to Edmonton. Lots of very tired, but very happy faces on the way home. We came for Revy’s best and we took all it had to give us. Don’t miss this!
North America’s most vertical! Revelstoke Mountain Resort offers 3,121 acres of fall line skiing, high alpine bowls, 13 areas of gladed terrain and long, phenomenal groomed runs. It’s affectionately known as “the ‘Stoke” for lots of reasons. Ask any skier or boarder that’s been, the adjectives flow like well carved turns. You arrive at the base and it’s just like most places, it has a chalet, nice deck, some lifts, no biggie…. Well that’s the last time “no biggie” will go through your mind. This place is HUGE. It has the largest vertical drop of any ski area in Canada. Get ready for a perma-grin.
Probably the most aptly named lift in the mountains. As you ride up you get the feel for the sheer size of the Revelstoke Mountain resort. There are great runs showing up underneath you as you climb up the mountain. There are several blue runs here and two green runs off this lift. If you are a raw beginner, this place is a lot to bite off. If you are a blue or black rider, this place is heaven on earth. Make sure you have your trail map as you depart the base though – you’re going to need it. Plan a warm up on the lower part to get the legs ready for what’s to come… As you look up mountain the Stoke chair comes into view.
This chair is where the ‘stoke begins! The upper part of the mountain exposes you to many magnificent runs. Have your Go Pros locked and loaded for every run up here. Also, pack water and snacks, it’s a loooong way from the top to the bottom! Green riders should know there’s still a way down if you’ve come for the view. Plan on sore legs by the bottom though, as the easy way down is also the longest run Revy has to offer. The Last Spike is over 15km long of nice, easy going switchbacks. From the Stoke chair you can also access the Ripper chair which gives access to some spectacular terrain.
Some of the best runs are off this chair. While access to North bowl isn’t easy from this chair, the terrain here is worth the effort. You’ll need to ride this to get back to the front side from your North Bowl run so it’s good to know where it is.
This is the biggest, coolest, place to ride. The hike in is ok, just enough work to make you feel like you accomplished something when it’s over. The terrain is breathtaking, or the hike kicked your butt… one of the two. Make sure to ski/ride with buddies in here. Treat this with respect. Experienced riders know what we’re talking about. You don’t want a problem back here, it’s a looong way out.
